I've never considered myself very artistic in the traditional sense.

Creative, yes.
Artistic, no.

When I was at university, we had a mandatory art class requirement.

I waited until the last semester of my last year to take the class.

It turns out that I wasn't too bad at drawing.

What I'm learning from Your Brain on Art is that you don't have to be an artist to be transformed by the arts.

Some tidbits that have stuck with me include:
  • Nature is art, so spend time in it.
  • Poetry can be understood emotionally, without being understood rationally
  • Small moments of drawing and doodling can decrease stress and anxiety
  • How are emotions can be regulated through sound because emotions are simply energy in motion
  • The importance of using and moving our bodies to move through trauma
  • The array of art therapies that are being used and studied to treat all kinds of disease

I am only about halfway through, but highly recommend it.

    Hi there!

    I am Theresa Destrebecq.

I am a passionate learner and leader who loves books, so I started a company that brings book-learning to companies to make it more social and transformational.

It's about moving beyond just consuming ideas in isolation, to connecting those ideas to yourself, your colleagues, and your work.
