If you know my work at all, you'll know that this statement might seem counter-intuitive coming from me. It could potentially ruin my business. Many call me 'the book lady' after all. Yet, I still believe that it is true. Another book won't change your leadership. It's not the ideas that are the problem. It's you. Yep, you. A book gives you ideas. It brings about awareness. It increases understanding. It creates appreciation. All of which come from your head. But leadership change doesn't come from your head. It comes from your heart. Through your hands. That's why another leadership book won't change your leadership. It's too cerebral. It's lacking conviction. It's words on a page, or in your ear. Timothy Clark talks about something called your 'threshold of conviction', which is that moment in time when you move from knowing something intellectually, to believing something whole-heartedly. Sometimes the action creates the belief. Sometimes the belief creates the action. That's why I believe my work is so important. I am giving leaders the space to experience the ideas, not just to discuss them. We are not merely acquiring new knowledge. We are making meaning from the knowledge, so that true wisdom emerges.
