I love when I finish a book circle and people don't want to leave. Today was no different. After 6 weekly sessions together, many of today's participants wanted to stay and hang out. It makes me smile every time. When it was down to the last person, he said: "Theresa, I gotta say, you make Zoom human." That's the one line I can exactly quote, but he went onto to say that I have a way of creating a space that people want to engage in. They turn their cameras on, they participate in the conversation, they engage in the activities, and they share their full selves every time. I thanked him for the compliment and then laughed. It's not the first time I've heard something in this vein. Wouldn't it be great if I could bottle whatever it is that I do up and sell it? ⭐️ ⭐️ Magical online meetings for sale, where everyone feels engaged, and no one wants to leave. ⭐️ ⭐️ Unfortunately, I can't, because I don't know exactly what I do from behind my screen, that allows participants to feel connected and engaged from behind theirs. It's not a checklist. It's not a hack. It's not something I read in a book. It's who I am. And that's the danger of books. Non-fiction books offer tons of ideas for what to do and how to do it, but if it's not YOU, it will never work for you. The only thing that I can say is that I have done a shit-ton of work on myself up to this point, and I am still doing more. I think being a better facilitator, starts with being a better human. It means looking into the dark corners of your own humanity, and confronting what you might not like to see or hear. I really think that's the secret sauce. And it's something that ANYONE can do.
