My father was a formidable man when I was a child (still is in many ways.) When he got angry when I was a little, I used to lock myself in the only room in our house with a lock -- our hall bathroom. I would crouch on the toilet seat, knees pulled into my chest, letting my heart rate slow down, waiting for the storm to blow through. For the most part, I was a compliant child, so these episodes were few and far between. Now I am the parent. I may not have the same height and temperament as my father, but I still hold most of the power. I like to think that I am not using fear as a way to keep my children "in line," yet I know that in some ways I do. I am about to embark on a several month journey with a group from Banque Triodos, as we explore the book Defy by Dr. Sunita Sah. Here is my first sketch note summary to support our work. I look forward to this journey with you, Caroline Wynn and the rest of the RISE participants who will be joining us. 👉 Were you a compliant child, like me? _____________________ Hello there 👋 I'm Theresa Destrebecq.
