The first time I went to therapy, I was 16. After discovering my eating disorder, my parents forced me to go. I was adamant that I didn't have a problem. They gave me no choice. Despite my cynicism, it helped. I went again in my 20s on two different occasions. During my "Bad Boss Detox" in my mid-30's, I went back to therapy. I also had a coach. I also attended all the Landmark programs I could. I also got trained in MBSR and NVC. It was intense. Yet, I am still not done evolving and dealing with my stuff. That's why it was a breath of fresh air to read this book. With his Australian humor and his fun drawings, Cam Walker makes understanding our mental mayhem so refreshing. He characterizes all the different voices in our head in a variety of different ways. There are the "FREELOADERS" who represent all the voices from the past that seem to still think that they have a means of directing us. Then there are the "FIVE BOSSES" the non-specific voices that still want to direct our every move:
And there's more. The Grumpy Sock Puppets represent the various voices of our inner critic.
And if that wasn't enough, there is the entire ZOO acting as the ballast to our houseboat. I won't even go into them. All of which to say, this is a fun book to remind you that you are not crazy. His videos on Youtube are also quite fun. Thanks for the recommendation marianne oh, via your NDB session. Enjoy everyone! Originally posted on LinkedIn with comments. Read Deeper Not Faster
