Cate Czerwinski and I were sitting in the grass along the Garonne River in Bordeaux, drinking wine with some of our fellow facilitators, when she mentioned "The Wheel of Consent." I was immediately intrigued. Then Cate and Adriana Costa Souza started talking more animatedly about Betty Martin's work, and I was hooked - I wanted to know more. Although the book is about touch (not sex) and it's relationship to consent, it goes way beyond touch and opens up an entire inquiry around giving, receiving, willingness, and consent. Some of the questions Betty Martin asks, are ones that we don't ever ask ourselves, nor the people that we live with, or work with. But what if we did? I am only at the beginning of the book, but already see my own blocks around giving and receiving. Thanks, Cate and Adriana, for sparking my curiosity. Originally posted on LinkedIn with comments.
