Yes, I do read novels. Despite all my posts about all the non-fiction, professional development books, I do have a life outside of work. Recently, through the recommendations and insights of my friends and colleagues, I have been exploring another realm of book that I didn't know existed -- Romantasy. It's a genre that I never would have explored on my own. And yet, I can't stop reading. It's become a drug. I am on my 6th book in 2 weeks. Last weekend, while enjoying a long-weekend away (and reading a lot), my kids bet me that I couldn't put my Kindle down. I swore I could for 2 weeks, and it's currently tucked into the bottom of my sock drawer. I swapped to audio instead 😉 What is it about these books that has me so enthralled? They are vicious and cruel and ugly. There is war, and death, and dying, and sex. There is also magic, and faeries, and dragons. What makes it such an escape, such a moment of self-care, is that I know this world does not exist, so I can lean into it completely. Yet, there are strong connections and themes to our current state of affairs. The animosity between peoples. The warring over lands and power. The strength that's needed to endure. The sustainability of our world as it is now. If I see you online sometime soon, and I look tired, you'll know that my drug of choice had me up too late reading about flying humans and magical powers. 👉 What are you reading for "fun" these days?
