Corporate Client : How long will you be gone? This was part of a conversation that I had last week with one of my clients, and this week's reading from Tricia Hersey's emphasizes just how far I have come. Hersey's book is an invitation. An invitation that goes beyond napping. An invitation for you to look closely at who your exhaustion is really for. Your rational mind may say, "For my family. I have bills to pay." But is that really all there is to it? Hersey says NO. She invites us to look closely at the link between exhaustion, productivity, and it's place in a capitalist, patriarchal, and white supremacist society. A society that has told us that we are NOT enough to rest. That we haven't earned the right to rest. That we need to hustle, and grind because that is how we find our place in the world. That's how we reach our dreams. But as Hersey points out....if we are too exhausted to dream, how can we know that we are actually living out OUR dream, and not someone else's? Tomorrow is my last day of work before my 6 weeks of rest. Time to reboot. Regenerate. Resist. How will you rest this summer? Originally posted on LinkedIn with comments. Read Deeper Not Faster.
